Detailing Knife #7 is a carving and shaving tool. To do pierce out work, make a pilot hole, then use the tip of the Knife to Ôrelieve the cornersÕ. Make cuts from the corners toward the hole. This makes it easier to open up windows neatly and without overcutting.
The beveled edge of the Detailing Knife #7 is ideal for shaving wax and carving fine details. Removing too much material at once often results in over cutting and cracked waxes. It is better to remove material a sliver or shaving at a time. To open up windows, shave away slivers of wax, cutting from corner to corner (clockwise and counter clockwise). Relieve corners again, then shave away wax from corner to corner- repeating as necessary until windows are open. Neaten up windows with Taper triangle tool #12.
